It is so easy to be in a rush. Unless you live in a small town, out in the country, or away from the hustle of cities and valleys, the push to rush is on our tail.
We have access to so much and to put it simply that access creates a menu of life options that feels like a Cheesecake Factory menu. Do you remember those? It’s like a magazine and their portions are overkill too.
With access to so much it can instigate over engagement and collecting a lot of clutter, especially of the mind. That often leads to increasing the pulse of our nervous system and hence the rush energy.
What I am called to share here with you, is just to offer a gentle reminder that it’s all made up.
All the stuff, all the ideas, all the rules, all the societal influences, and also, all the thoughts fluttering in the mind, they are all made up. This means you can change them, abandon them, create new ones, and also discern what you will allow to preoccupy and occupy any part of you.
It can be helpful then to slow down a bit, and remove some of the access - you to it, and all of it to you. This will create some space allowing you to choose more consciously. This is no easy feat. We are designed to intake, and we have a lot of practice doing it the way we have been doing it.
The good news is that we are way more powerful than we realize.
Our opportunity as souls embodying a human experience is to notice all the “stuff” that is impacting and influencing us. Our thoughts play a pretty big part in that noise and we are often moving through life without bringing in a deeper level of awareness.
This is because we have many things keeping us busy at the surface level. Like I said, unless you live or spend a lot of your time in big open spaces or deep in nature, the activity in the average life, is quite real, and seductive.
One way to take stock and recalibrate ideas you may be operating from is to get them out of your head and onto paper. It’s amazing what insight comes forward when we give ourselves the time and space to do the inner inquiry and hear ourselves.
Your genius, your highest level of being, and your answers to pretty much all of your questions are inside of you.
It is a pretty gorgeous and revelatory thing when you spend time going within providing yourself opportunities to be heard. I honestly believe if this was a fundamental life skill taught AND, encouraged through practicing experiences from our earliest stages, like learning our timetables, our entire planet would look different.
Instead we have a culture habituated in being externally referenced which perpetuates looking to others for everything.
Whatever it is we are seeking without, is actually meant to be sought within.
This isn’t to say we don’t need each other or are not meant to be connecting, and in exchange. Rather, whatever we receive from others would be more valuable, and healthier, and more useful if it came on top of what we already have, know, or receive from within.
Consider these journal prompts as a way of checking in with you and your thoughts:
What am I thinking about a lot lately?
What stories, beliefs, and conclusions have I created and made within all those thoughts?
How have those thoughts helped me in accessing a greater level of peace and wellbeing?
What am I learning about myself as a result?
What other thoughts or ideas have been occupying my mind?
Within all of this, what if any action do I need to take to support myself?
What of these thoughts, stories or ideas are helpful?
What of these thoughts, stories, or ideas are harmful?
What thoughts, stories, or ideas, am I ready to release and let go?
What big insights am a I receiving or taking away from this inquiry?
What is one action I can take to support myself from here?
This reminds me of a free tool I launched recently, “the Mastery minute.” I created this tool because I believe in the power of being spoken into or experiencing the provocation that can stimulate a higher level of thinking and being. I have received invaluable support and growth inspiration from the many teachers on my path. One of my favs is Wayne Dyer. I have listened to the audio version of his book, The Power of Intention, multiple times. I am reborn each time.
Because of him and others, I was called to create this tool and it has been a deeply inspired project, and super FUN too! It is a 60-second message delivered to your inbox on Monday mornings with a weekly dose of inspiration and empowerment. You can learn more about it HERE. You can subscribe to begin receiving it HERE.
