Full disclosure right from the beginning: you can rest assured that pretty much everything I’m capturing in this dialogue (all of my posts) is what I am practicing or attempting to practice and master myself. I do consider myself a teacher. I also feel a good teacher is first and always a relentless, curious, and humble student.
OK now that that’s out-of-the-way let’s get into it.
By the time we reach adulthood and really into our 40s, we’ve gathered a good bit of life experience aka, our toolbox.
In this toolbox, we have experiences that include many reference points, what we’ve learned, big failures, and big wins, for example.
We’ve also had a fair share of relationships. We’ve had our home or where we grew up and the family members or people that surrounded us as we went from toddler to adolescent to early adulthood.
We have the friendships we made and all of the painful lessons of the playground. (Was that just me?!)
We’ve had our first crush often written about in diaries, journals, the inside of our notebook, our Peechee folder, the inside sole of our vans, notes passed between our pseudo besties during the third period,…any of these ring a bell for you???
(Fun Fact: I always thought it was PeeGee folder, lol! until I looked it up. TY Google!)
We walk into our first job, the minimum wage job, and there begins a whole other set of experiences. And so forth into our academic years or whatever additional education and schooling we join, and then adulthood, career, marriage, and life.
I took us on a journey down memory Lane to reflect and remember the amount of data and intel that we have collected consciously, and unconsciously that has now become how we see the world, our filters, our beliefs, and essentially our personality.
By 40, we know how to figure it out! Or at least we think we do.
Some of us more than others I presume, and for the most part, we rely on our minds to sort out our lives.
Here’s where that’s a problem. That’s only one person with one life, one perspective, and 40 years of information. When you think about it like that, it can sound a little limiting, right?
It’s especially limiting if you, this one person, are trying to do something you’ve never done. Yes, you can learn to do the thing you have never done before, but what I am attempting to impart is that we are often not tapping into the invisible powers we possess to do that new thing, whatever it is.
The “figuring it out” mindset is overly entrenched in using just the mind and that mind is also managing all kinds of feelings that come along when we are doing something we have never done before. Feelings like self-doubt, fear, insecurity, and even self-importance, expectations, and perfectionism.
When we are children, before we have all these experiences, we tend to be much lighter, more creative, and less attached to getting it right or even “figuring it out” as the last stop. When we are kids we often “figure it out” and then destroy it and do it again.
Are you with me?
So what’s missing?
Well, before you get into that trustee brain of yours let me get into it quickly.
What’s missing is the infinite intelligence that’s WITHIN, and that is cultivated in relationship with your highest Self, your inner knowing, your relationship with God, Jesus, spirit, and or mother earth; you decide what resonates for you.
That creative intelligence cannot be quantified or measured in any earthly, physical world, or objective way.
Hence why I must share with you this point of reference that changed my entire life. For the better.
We are not humans with a soul. We are souls having a human experience.
We come here to embody and learn.
Earth is a school.
Keep in mind that Earth is a school run by humans not always living by the reference point I just introduced.
Perhaps you already know exactly what I’m talking about. Perhaps you have a long-standing nurtured relationship with your divinity.
Perhaps you seek counsel on the regular.
What’s been taught to us consciously and unconsciously, however, is to seek that counsel only when we’re in trouble.
Prayer is almost synonymous with pain.
What if every time you had a triumph you also first went to your creator?
What if every time you had a dream or an intuition or a creative idea (all of which can be the same thing) you first tapped into your divine nature, and you sought council with the infinite wisdom that lies within you?
This infinite wisdom is not found in the mind.
Can you imagine how you might experience your life with that practice?
How might you approach new endeavors or goals with your inner guide as your engaged partner?
What would challenges look and feel like if you sought counsel from your soul while in the midst instead of just relying on your “figuring it out” brain?
What that looks like and how to access IT is for another post. However, I will share a couple of tips to practice if what I am sharing here speaks to you.
Make it a practice of getting quiet or sitting in some form of meditation, daily. If a daily practice feels unrealistic, you can experiment with it when you are hitting a challenge or as you enter a creative project. Pause before you dig in, set a timer for three minutes (start there), and follow your breath with your mind. Up and down with the rise and fall of your breath is a great way to go inward. As your thoughts attempt to invade your quiet, notice them and return your attention to the rise and fall of your breath. Getting quiet like this on the regular will create the gap needed to hear your inner knowing.
Get outside and go for a walk. Leave your earbuds at home. This is a no-music walk, just listening to your thoughts. Keep walking until you start to hear your inspiration coming through in new ideas or spontaneous creativity. Continue for at least 30 minutes until you start to notice all the insight and intel that is attempting to be downloaded. Don’t be discouraged if your first thoughts are your laundry list, complaints, or self-judgment. Let them run their course until you hear your elevated voice. Its there.
Write this question down on post-its, note cards, journals, or the like. You want it to be in your purview. The question is: “What would my highest self bring to this…challenge, project, or task?” You are inviting your highest level of thinking or insight to make itself known. The invitation and often verbally to self is effective.
If you choose to make this a regular practice and you nurture it like you do taking care of all the other important things in your life, you will slowly begin to Know yourself more deeply. This will also change your experience of your entire life. For the better.
